Lladro Creation Fit for Royalty

Pierce Interiors at Northbrook Court store offers $190,000 piece of art.

Walk into Pierce Interiors at Northbrook Court and you will likely be drawn to “Queen of the Nile,” a Lladro creation containing 12 separate figurines aboard a ship depicting an ancient Egyptian queen.

This is no ordinary piece of art. Only 100 were made in 2006, according to the company website and this one may be the last in the United States according to store owner Bill Pierce of Highland Park. The price: $190,000.

“We had an Egyptologist in here and he said it was authentic,” Pierce said. “They aren’t making any more. They’re sold out at the factory.”

Lladro has been part of Pierce’s business long before he moved from Lincoln Village in Chicago to Northbrook Court three years ago. The Spanish based company likes stores selling home furnishings offering its wares.

“We’ve established ourselves in Lladro for more than a decade,” Pierce said. “We can make a splash,” he added pointing to several cases of the figurines, other pieces on display and two lions which will soon be in his window. They will sell for $25,000 each.

The “Queen of the Nile” was originally in the window but Pierce was forced to move it into the store. “It took up the whole window,” he said.

Daughters of the company’s founders, Rosa Lladro and Mari Carmen Lladro have made visits to the Northbrook store to promote the products.

Is “Queen of the Nile” the most expensive product in Northbrook Court? “I don’t know for sure but it’s up there,” mall Marketing Director Stacey Kollios.
