Major Changes Coming to Deerbrook

Much of existing mall to be torn down to make way for focus on smaller stores.

A major makeover is planned for Deerbrook Mall with small shops becoming a larger focus of the shopping center, according to a story today in the Chicago Sun Times.

In an announcement Monday by RREEF Real Estate, the real estate investment management business of Deutsche Bank’s Asset Management division, and Mid-America Asset Management Inc., which manages the site, much of the existing mall will be demolished in favor of smaller stores, according to the report.

Mayor Harriet Rosenthal hinted at changes for the mall in the aftermath of the announcement , according to a company spokesperson. ““Deerbrook has been working on a renovation to the shopping center,” she said at the time.
