Maker's Mark Bourbon Lowers Alcohol Content

The well-known whisky has lowered the alcohol-by-volume of the drink to keep up with high demands.

Maker’s Mark bourbon drinkers are now getting less booze per bottle.

The whisky known for it’s red wax topped bottles is cutting the amount of alcohol-by-volume (ABV) from 90 proof to 84 proof to keep up with high demands.

“Since we’re a one-brand company that’s never purchased bourbon from other distillers when supplies are short, forecasting is very difficult. Over the years, our one variable that helps us avoid market shortages has been the age of the whisky in the Maker’s bottle. That range is between five years nine months and seven years. Because Maker’s Mark is aged to taste, Dad never put a specific age statement on the bottle. It wasn’t the age that mattered; it was the taste, the quality and the consistency,” a statement on makersmark.com reads.

Maker’s Mark officials say the whisky made at the lower ABV tastes the same as the old batches.

What do you think about the new alcohol content of Maker's Mark? Will you still buy the product? Tell us in the comments section.

One of Stevie's drinks of choice. This is very very bad news for me. I may have to drink Gentlemen's Jack, very smooth.

This is the most news worth article ever produced on every patch website across the nation. Job well done..not by makers though.

Lower proof = more water? Sounds like the grocery shrink ray is hitting the brand.

Maybe they could mix in some ethanol; with Obama in office we're gonna need it.

Another clever remark, Vick. Even when the topic has nothing to do with politics, you still find a way to criticize YOUR president (unless you're illegal- are you illegal, Vicki?). Yes Vicki, he is the president of the United States of America, the country in which you choose to live. The country that will remain the way it has been since its founding, despite what extremists, sycophants, and just plain liars tell you (yes, the pres. does have darker skin, but that only means his body has more melanin, not that he's the anti-Christ). It's a shame you're so short-sighted, Vick. Not surprising, but a shame nevertheless. Of course if things just get too bad for you here, maybe Saudi Arabia would be more to your liking.

The three percent difference really matters that much to you all? If it wasn't marked on the bottle, I don't think any of our livers could tell the difference. It's by no means top tier bourbon, but I think most people who are drinking purely for results don't spend the extra money on Makers, and again, 43% ABV will still get most people messed up rather fast. At least they are coming out public with it and not just changing it with little news.

lol Sulli; I wish that I were illegal. it's a great time to be one! I would be vastly better off under this dictator that we are stuck with. I did choose to stay in this country; too bad that there is no better place to go. I don't need anyone to tell me what is in plain sight for all to see. As far as melanin goes, I would like to see Allen West run next time. Too bad the Muslim is more worried about violating our second amendment rights than fixing the mess that is our economy. Pass the Maker's Mark!
