New Tom & Eddie's Menu Offers Bargains

Company boasts nine sandwiches under $5 but a close look shows there are even more.

Tom & Eddie’s customers spoke and restaurateurs Tom Dentice and Ed Rensi listened.

The company has changed its menu in Deerfield, Vernon Hills and its other locatiion now offering nine sandwiches under $5 and new specialty items for the heartier eater.

 “Our customers were asking for lower prices and we took suggestions from our customers,” Chief Marketing Officer Cherle Link said. “Tom (Dentice) and Ed (Rensi) looked at the economy and wanted to do something.”

None of the old items went away though some must be ordered through the build your own feature on the menu, according to Link.

A closer look at the menu shows more than nine sandwiches can be purchased for under $5. In fact, the amount can be nearly limitless depending on customer creativity. Five items in the create your own category are less than $5, before adding condiments and toppings, as well as the children’s menu.

Besides the classic burger and three versions of the sloppy joe—the Original Mess, the Mongolian Mess and the Philly Cheese Mess—there is a chicken sandwich and four Flipside burgers offering beef, pork and chicken.

“The flipside is the alternative to a hit record and these are the alternative to our burgers,” Executive Vice President Tony Dentice said. “It’s the flipside of what we do, beef.”

The Flipside burgers include a beef creation made like meatloaf, the Mahalo (a pork burger with pineapple and prosciutto), the Cubano made with pork, prosciutto and Swiss cheese and a chicken burger with smoked gouda and Carolina barbeque sauce.

For those looking for a heartier meal, items like the Love Me Tender steak sandwich made with filet mignon, the Blue Buffalo prepared with fried chicken, blue cheese cream and buffalo sauce and the Havana pork tenderloin—a bigger variation of the Cubano—are priced from $10.99 to $11.99. They come with sides.

people if you havent tried these burgers you havent lived. They are so good and tha manager of the deerfield store is great. Believe me, you will not be disappointed.

Awesome! Can't wait to try the new menu. I've always avoided Tom and Eddie's because I felt it was overpriced.

My primary complaint about T&E was their price point vs what you get (aka value) so this is a smart move by them.

Worst burgers and Service in town we gave up on them like many others back in the summer.

I was one of the lucky people that won a free meal for a year when they opened. I though the burgers were ok, but nothing special, and the frozen fries were even worse. I decided to tell the corporate HQ what I really thought, after all, I was eating there every week. My main point was, no one would come there with me after eating there once. I told them, if I owned a restaurant and heard that, I wouldn't sleep at night. For one, the meat was not high quality. Two, fries should be fresh cut. They implemented both not long after. I'm certainly not saying I am the reason they changed, but it's nice that they did. The burger quality got better. The fries got WAY better. I also told them they were too expensive for what they were serving. Period. And they wouldn't even consider my suggestion about giving the kids and high schoolers a big discount to get more business and traffic. I told them my nephew at Deerfield High School and his friend WOULD eat there if it weren't so expensive. After all, it's a burger joint! That's the type of place where kids want to go - at least I did when I was in school. These new changes are a good move by them to prepare them for the warmer weather, when they do better. They need to re-introduce themselves to the area too, and maybe this time people will be on board.

Funny about what you say about re-introducing, because when I think of T&E's I drive to the one in lincolnshire. I was at the commons today, and didn't even see the place. Forgot their was one there til I saw this article. Love the bacon, smoked gouda, with a fried egg. Drink machine is awsome. And never noticed fries. DFHS burger,fry,and a coke? Go to dog out. Not as good, but cheaper and more than dear old Frank. Is DFHS open campass?

I was only there once. I would not return. The food was mediocre at best. If you want an outstanding burger...a burger to judge all other burgers by go to Edzo's in Evanston. It's a killer burger, the fries are outstanding and the most delicious milk shakes you will have ever experienced. Now...for me...all burgers must pass the Edzo test. T&E should try their fare...and try to match what a great burger tastes like.

Fuddruckers isn't good by any means, but I'd rather eat there than T&E any day.
