New Tom & Eddie's Menu Offers Bargains

Company boasts nine sandwiches under $5 but a close look shows there are even more.

Tom & Eddie’s customers spoke and restaurateurs Tom Dentice and Ed Rensi listened.

The company has changed its menu in Deerfield, Vernon Hills and its other locatiion now offering nine sandwiches under $5 and new specialty items for the heartier eater.

 “Our customers were asking for lower prices and we took suggestions from our customers,” Chief Marketing Officer Cherle Link said. “Tom (Dentice) and Ed (Rensi) looked at the economy and wanted to do something.”

None of the old items went away though some must be ordered through the build your own feature on the menu, according to Link.

A closer look at the menu shows more than nine sandwiches can be purchased for under $5. In fact, the amount can be nearly limitless depending on customer creativity. Five items in the create your own category are less than $5, before adding condiments and toppings, as well as the children’s menu.

Besides the classic burger and three versions of the sloppy joe—the Original Mess, the Mongolian Mess and the Philly Cheese Mess—there is a chicken sandwich and four Flipside burgers offering beef, pork and chicken.

“The flipside is the alternative to a hit record and these are the alternative to our burgers,” Executive Vice President Tony Dentice said. “It’s the flipside of what we do, beef.”

The Flipside burgers include a beef creation made like meatloaf, the Mahalo (a pork burger with pineapple and prosciutto), the Cubano made with pork, prosciutto and Swiss cheese and a chicken burger with smoked gouda and Carolina barbeque sauce.

For those looking for a heartier meal, items like the Love Me Tender steak sandwich made with filet mignon, the Blue Buffalo prepared with fried chicken, blue cheese cream and buffalo sauce and the Havana pork tenderloin—a bigger variation of the Cubano—are priced from $10.99 to $11.99. They come with sides.
