Townhouse Kitchen + Bar Starts Cooking in Deerfield

Townhouse Kitchen + Bar has replaced the former Red Star Tavern with a new food and drink menu, upscale atmosphere.

Townhouse Kitchen + Bar opened its doors this weekend at 695 Deerfield Rd., occupying the space of the former Red Star Tavern.

Restaurants-America, the Glenview-based parent company of both the Townhouse and Red Star brands, said in a press release it wants to provide Deerfield with an upscale dining experience at reasonable prices. The parent company called Townhouse the “quintessential urban lodge.”

The restaurant features wood paneled walls, large tables and eight plasma televisions, as well as a contemporary American kitchen headed up by corporate chef Anthony Reyes. Reyes came to Restaurants-America after spending nine years at the Rosebud Restaurant group, and told Patch he will be at the Deerfield location for the next couple of weeks to make sure the restaurant is running smoothly. “We want the neighbors to make (Townhouse) their local Cheers,” he said.

Reyes said he expects “Allen Brothers prime steaks, hand-crafted cocktails and hand-made desserts” to be among the highlights on the menu. The restaurant will offer locally produced, sustainable menu items whenever possible, Reyes said. “People want prepared-to-order, fresh food,” he said of the local customer base.

Elaine Pfeffer from Highland Park and Charlene Gelber of Northbrook were among Townhouse’s first customers following Friday’s 4:00 p.m. opening. Pfeffer hand a salmon sandwich off the “two-handed sandwiches” menu. “It was excellent,” she said. Pfeffer and Gelber also complimented the restaurant on its comfortable over-sized booths and attractive interior.

Townhouse serves lunch, dinner and cocktails from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. A piano player will perform live between 7 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

“We’re excited to be in the neighborhood and offer a contemporary upscale” dining experience, said Glenn Hofstra, the restaurant’s general manager.
