Walgreens Trims Headquarters Staff

Layoffs at Deerfield corporate campus could be as high as 17 percent.

Deerfield based Walgreens, the Village’s largest employer and the Chicago area’s fourth biggest, is currently laying off an indeterminate number of people in all areas of the company’s corporate structure, according to a report on Crain’s Chicago Business.

Though a corporate spokesperson would not confirm how many people will lose their jobs or when the staff trimming would end, employees told Crain’s, on condition of anonymity, that between 15 and 17 percent of the workers in finance and corporate areas could be out of work, according to Crain’s. Last month, Walgreens announced its profits would be up 27 percent from the same time a year ago.
