Walmart Pulls Plug on Northbrook
After multiple public input meetings and revisions to their initial proposal, Walmart has determined it is not "economically feasible" to move forward with the changes Northbrook's Plan Commission requested.
Walmart has withdrawn its zoning application to construct a 150,000-square-foot superstore at 1000 Skokie Blvd, the Village of Northbrook announced Friday afternoon.
"Based on the feedback received that further changes to the project would be necessary for the possible support of the project, Walmart determined after significant deliberation that the project is no longer economically feasible," an attorney on behalf of Walmart wrote in a letter to Northbrook officials, which the village released.
Northbrook's Plan Commission unanimously turned down Walmart's 1000 Skokie Blvd. proposal during last week's public input meeting on the development, but welcomed the company to return with a new proposal in December.
Patch readers recently voiced their thoughts on the Plan Commission's action to deny the Walmart development.
One user, Sigurd Nielsen, wrote, "Northbrook leaders are being short sighted."
Another user, concerned citizen, wrote "There is NO way a building of that size fits on that property! Cudos to the commisioners for upholding the comprehensive plan!"
