FAMILY NETWORK - AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY PROGRAM (ASAP) TEACHER


The mission of Family Network, a Family Focus Center, is to promote the well being of children from birth by supporting and strengthening their families in and with their communities. The After
School Activity Program (ASAP), in partnership with North Shore School District 112, provides
programming for Highland Park/Highwood children in afternoon kindergarten through fifth grade.

ASAP Teacher:

The ASAP teacher is responsible for planning and implementing enrichment activities, assisting with homework and for providing a nurturing environment for the children. This position is 15-18 hours per week, 3-6pm on school days during the regular school year. The ASAP teacher reports to the Site Coordinator as well as to the ASAP Director.

Dedication to enhancing each child's physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development


• Creativity, flexibility, understanding and patience


• An understanding of school-age children, including their developmental characteristics


• Sensitivity to children's socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds,


•Willingness to learn about and to work with children’s special needs and capabilities


• Use of positive discipline and guidance techniques


• Ability to provide an environment in which children feel a sense of belonging


• Commitment to the principles of family support and strength-based practice


Duties and Responsibilities:


• Maintain consistent supervision and active involvement with children at all times


• Plan and implement appropriate, engaging activities in accordance with ASAP goals and objectives


• Maintain a warm, caring and non-judgmental attitude towards children and their families


• Work in partnership with the ASAP staff team; be an active, cooperative contributor


• Maintain records as required


• Assist in maintaining equipment and materials in a neat, organized fashion


• Attend team, staff and individual supervision meetings


• Participate in orientation, on-going training and in-service education programs


• Communicate with Site Coordinator regarding issues and concerns, accidents, illness, etc.


• Abide by Family Network personnel policies


• Assume full responsibility of the program in the absence of the Site Coordinator


• Commitment to the program, including arrival at ASAP site promptly and ready to work


Required Qualifications:


• Availability during all ASAP hours including occasional full days and early dismissal days


• College level courses related to after-school, school-age child care, child development, elementary education, special education or other related fields


• Experience working with school-age children in an educational or recreational setting


• Must live within a 10 mile radius of Highland Park


• Ability to speak Spanish preferred
