Move Up The All Time TOP 10 at Fly’n Hawk Invite

On Saturday April 19th the 41 Warriors traveled to Millenium Field for the always TOUGH Bartlett Fly’n Hawk Invitational.  As it is every year, this meet is deep and talented and requires Sectional and State level efforts to compete at the highest level.  The Warriors have really been looking for team chemistry and energy and on Saturday and although we really had a rough day early in the jumps and sprints with fouls and DQ’s the boys stayed calm and focused and were looking for a spark to get us in the meet.  This meet it was the F/S 3200 Relay of Soph Devin Stein, Frosh Brett Schneider, Frosh Lucas Wathen, and Frosh Andrew Burmeister ALL setting PR’s and then right after Senior Matt Gibson clearing an All Time PR of 12’6.  He came off the pit yelling with excitement and that energy spread through the team.  This is always the case at any meet someone has to get them team rolling and once that happens that energy just carries through the team and we start to feed off of each others individual success for the TEAM.  This sure was the case as Coach Gapser comes sprinting up to the track and simply said “56’6 Meet Record!” for Senior Dominic Dibenedetto in the Shot and this now places him #2 ALL Time at Deerfield!  Then Junior Chris Douglas comes over and says “Charlie Kogan just put a 44’2 down” in Triple Jump that moved the Junior up to #3 ALL Time at Deerfield!  Then Chris went to the 110HH and ran an FAT All Time PR just missing 1st by 300th of a second being out flashed at the line, but that lesson was quickly learned as he raced to 1st place by 200th’s of a second in the 300IH with an All Time Best of 40.39 and that moved him to 6th All Time at Deerfield!  Charles Nash also had a big day as he set ALL time PR’s in the 800 split and the 1600 with a 4:33 during heavy training as well as Reilly Grant with a 10:09 in the 3200!  That for Reilly is simply unbelievable when you look at his FROSH PR of 11:55.  This was so exciting to see these boys who have worked so hard all off season to earn these rewards.  It’s scary to think what this team could be with key Juniors that are out injured as the Junior Class won this meet last year as SOPHS and many big pieces of that team have yet to compete consistently this year.  With that said the coaches were very pleased overall how the team got going and never gave up on the meet.  It was a grind day in many ways but the boys must remember always that we have to push the envelope in all field events , all relays, and all races to be a Varsity team that has a chance to do special things in May.

The Varsity Team finished a respectable 6th place out of 15 teams although we left at least 16pts out on the track and in the field (we can’t do that boys!) and the F/S finished a very disappointing 14th out of 15 teams as they left all kinds of points in the field and on the track.  Get Better BOYS.
