Warrior Girls Soccer Rolls in Season Opener

The Warrior soccer team started off 2014 on a winning note with a 4-0 shutout over Niles West in Skokie on Tuesday afternoon.  After some early Warrior pressure, Maddy Otto and Margot Sylvan combined on a nice passing sequence to set up freshman Erin Rosenzweig for her first varsity goal in the 12th minute.  Deerfield controlled the remainder of the half, but was unable to add to the lead until freshman Sydney Barber intercepted a Wolves clearance and rifled a left footed shot into the net in the 32nd minute.  Two minutes later, Logan Just lobbed a ball over the top of the defense for Emily Kellow to tap in her first of the year.  Thirty-two seconds into the second half, Barber got her second to make it 4-0.  Otto stepped up and won the ball at midfield and executed a give and go with Sylvan.  The ball went to Just on the wing, and her crossed was met by Barber’s left foot on the volley to finish off a great sequence.  Bailey Bradford made five saves to post her fifteenth career shutout.  Eleven different Warriors made their varsity debuts, including the central defense tandem of Mirelle Haas and McKenna Crockford.
