What is the Greatest Gift You Can Give Children?

Learn the answer from nationally renowned pediatrician and author Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg, at two community programs on November 7:

Building Resilience: Raising Children who are Prepared to Thrive Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., North Shore Unitarian Church, 2100 Half Day Road, Deerfield
Dr. Ginsburg is a nationally renowned pediatrician whose groundbreaking research in the field of Adolescent Medicine puts him at the forefront of his field.  The research is clear, Dr. Ginsburg has found - success is more dependent on resilience than on grade point average, high-stakes testing, or prestige of college.  Dr. Ginsburg’s program will focus on his “7 C’s of Resilience” -- confidence, competence, connection, character, contributions, coping, and control -- as the building blocks for how parents can foster resilience in their teens. Dr. Ginsburg is currently Associate Medical Editor of The American Academy of Pediatrics’ Parenting Web Page, Healthychildren.org  He is a key contributor to the film Race to Nowhere and he appears frequently in the national media and on the lecture circuit.  Note:  Deerfield Parent Network will sponsor a related book talk based on Dr. Ginsburg’s latest book, Building Resilience in Children and Teens: Giving Kids Roots and Wings, at Deerfield Public Library at 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 20.

Authentic Success: Raising Adolescents to Thrive in a Challenging World Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Stevenson High School, 1 Stevenson Dr.
Though much of parenting is about thinking on your feet and meeting your children’s needs today, this program by renowned pediatrician Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg reminds us that the long term goal of parenting is to raise a successful 35-year-old. Dr. Ginsburg’s discussion will offer parents strategies for developing a child’s social and emotional intelligence, and how to foster the kind of internal security that leads to resilience in life and “authentic success.”  Dr. Ginsburg is currently Associate Medical Editor of The American Academy of Pediatrics’ Parenting Web Page, Healthychildren.org. He is a key contributor to the film Race to Nowhere and he appears frequently in the national media and on the lecture circuit.  Note:  Deerfield Parent Network will sponsor a related book talk based on Dr. Ginsburg’s latest book, Letting Go with Love and Confidence, at Deerfield Public Library at 7:00 p.m. on Dec. 3.
