The Patty Turner Center staff invites all adults to join Writer, Filmmaker and Academic Reid Schultz in his fun, enlightening and educational course that analyzes one of the most masterful directors of all time: Stanley Kubrick. The upcoming class, meeting Tuesdays, April 9 through May 14 from 6:00 – 9:30 p.m., screens six films, along with clips from Kubrick’s The Killing; 2001: A Space Odyssey; Barry Lyndon; and The Shining.

Each class during the six-week series will contain a lecture on a specific topic and then viewing a full-length film, along with film clips. Afterwards, Reid will lead a discussion on the films for further analysis and explanation. The feature films to be screened are: Paths of Glory - 1957; Lolita - 1962; Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb –1964; A Clockwork Orange –1971; Full Metal Jacket –1987 and Eyes Wide Shut –1999.

According to Schultz, “Kubrick is considered one of the greatest filmmakers of all time although he only directed 13 films. His films, typically adaptations of novels or short stories, covered an amazing variety of genres, including war, crime dramas, dark comedies, romantic comedies, horror, historical drama, and science fiction. As a true visionary, his films are noted for their dazzling and unique cinematography, painstaking attention to details, a perfectionist personality working with actors and set design, and an inspired use of music scores. Just as his singularly brilliant directing style won him great acclaim, his unconventional sense of narrative and seeming lack of overt emotionalism often elicited critical scorn.
