Round Robin Chess Tournament set for May 11

Students in Kindergarten through High School Grade 12 are invited to sign up for the 2013 Deerfield Scholastic Open, a Round-Robin Chess Tournament.

Students in Kindergarten through High School Grade 12 are invited to sign up for the 2013 Deerfield Scholastic Open, a Round-Robin Chess Tournament set for Saturday, May 11 at Jewett Park Community Center (JPCC), beginning at 9:30 a.m. At the conclusion of the Tournament, an Awards Ceremony will take place (at approximately 2:30 p.m.). there will be a lunch break from about 12:00-12:45 p.m. Interested participants may sign up now for the Chess Tournament (Activity #352501 – Section 07) by registering online or at JPCC, 836 Jewett Park Drive, in Deerfield. The fee is $15 per person. The registration deadline is Thursday, May 9, at 5:00 p.m.

Instructor Polina Katsen says, “Please bring your chess skills and a chess set to our 6th Annual Deerfield Scholastic Open Chess Tournament. Players will compete once with every player in your section (grade). This is not a rated event. Players do not need to be members of the United States Chess Federation. Time control involved is as follows: g20 - grades  k-5; g30 - grades  6-12. Prizes will include: special awards for all kindergarten players; three individual trophies per grade (place i-iii); 1st Place best school team result (minimum 2 players): medals (k-5); 1st Place best school team result (minimum 2 players): medals (6-8); and 1st Place best school team result (minimum 2 players): medals (9-12). Certificates will be given to all participants.
