WHAT’S (AND WHO’S) NEW AT PATTY TURNER CENTER

Patty Turner Center (PTC), offering enrichment programs for adults 50 years and up, announces a potpourri of news and a new staff member. A new offering is a “Friday with Friends” Subs-n-Soda Lunch & Social. This new program, offered monthly on Fridays, is for PTC members and their guests who wish to gather informally and have an enjoyable afternoon of mingling and mixing with friends, old and new. Facility Manager David Shamrock says, “To introduce this program, we will feature a delicious lunch of submarine sandwiches, the music stylings of Ed Barth, and some ‘get-to-know-you’ activities that are sure to bring a smile to your face. Please come and bring a friend –or sign up for a very reasonably priced annual membership and join in on this great activity.” The “Friday with Friends” kickoff is Friday, September 27, 12-1:30pm. The fee is $8 per person. The registration deadline is Friday, September 20. Please contact PTC at 847-940-4010 or by email: info@pattyturnercenter.org for more information or to register.

The fall kick-off meeting for PTC’s Book Discussion Group will be hosted by the Center with a special introduction to new Program Coordinator Jill Becker. The Book Group welcomes all PTC members who share a passion for reading and who enjoy animated discussions. The Book Group will meet in the Conference Room on September 11, at 10:30 am. No registration is required and no fee is involved, as this and many other activities and services are benefits included with PTC membership.

Shamrock invites everyone to stop by and meet the Center’s new Program Coordinator Jill Becker. Jill was born and raised in Southampton, England, a large city on the south coast of England about 75 miles south-west of London. Jill moved to London for college and earned a Bachelor of Humanities from London University in English Literature and American Studies. Jill met her American husband while he was working on the London trading floor. Her family, with their then-three year old son, moved to the United States 13 years ago to be with their extended American family. Jill characterizes herself as happily married with two sons, now 13 and 16 years old. Jill’s first career was in theatre stage management -both with touring companies and also working extensively in London’s prestigious West End, England’s version of Broadway. She worked on many plays, like Shadowlands, which is about C.S. Lewis. The subsequent movie of the theatre play starred Anthony Hopkins. She also worked on many musicals, like the original Cats. Looking to the future, Jill is thrilled to join the Patty Turner Center, and is overwhelmed by the wonderful welcome she has received from the vibrant and involved membership!
