Invisible Children named this year's recipient of School Chest funds.

Planning is already underway for big charity event. School Chest is right around the corner and students are gearing up for three-weeks of
fundraising.

“I personally think that it’s really cool that our school can dedicate itself to one thing,” Zach Keeshin, DHS student, said. Keeshin will be co-chairing the event with Bernice Hsu this year. “We thought that we could make a difference,” Hsu added.

“We both thought this would be a fun challenge,” Hsu said. “You don’t expect a high school to be able to do something like this,” Keeshin mentioned.

Many DHS students already know about Invisible Children because of senior Danny Dubin. In April Dubin took a 25-hour vow of silence to raise funds and awareness for the organization.

Dubin explained that thousands of children have already been abducted by a rebel group in Uganda that forces them to become soldiers.

“Although we’re not there to see it you definitely feel a connection,” Keeshin said about this year’s charity choice. “The distance between us doesn’t matter, we’re all a part of this world,” Hsu stated.

Fundraising activities will kick off after Thanksgiving with events like a 5-K run, Deerfield Idol, Mr. DHS as well as a slew of other happenings.

Keeshin and Hsu hope the holiday season will put everyone in the giving spirit since they hope to raise as much if not more than last year.
