Hundreds Turn Out for Warrior Buddies Valentine’s Day Dance

Special education students dance night away at DHS event.

gym was packed last Saturday night with hundreds of students from around the area for a Valentine’s Day Dance.

The event was hosted by Warrior Buddies, a social club at DHS aimed at promoting inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. There are about 100 students involved in the organization.

Special education students from neighboring high schools were invited to dance the night away. Each special education student was paired with a general education student. This was the first dance many of the special education students had ever attended.

Seeing all of the kids on the dance floor was one of Michael Moran’s favorite parts. Moran is a teacher at DHS and a staff member on Warrior Buddies. “Almost everyone was in a congo line at one point,” he said.

Moran said students held fundraising events throughout the year in order to host the event. “I’ve never seen the cafeteria look better,” he recalled and added that the dance couldn’t have turned out any better than it did.
