Three Study Groups Meet to Examine District 113 Facility/Technology Plan

Three Study Groups Meet to Examine District 113 Facility/Technology Plan

During the weeks of August 21 and 28th, three more study group meetings were
held regarding the District 113 facility/technology plan. The meetings were
chaired and facilitated by Barry Bolek, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and
George Fornero, District 113 Superintendent.

One group, the Building Systems study team, focused on challenges faced at both Deerfield and Highland Park High School related to the building envelope and the mechanical systems such as heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical.

Another group, the 1914 Building and Physical Education areas, discussed the HPHS 1914 buildings. They held preliminary discussions regarding the adequacy of the learning spaces – both classroom & PE and the engineering & architectural analysis. Ultimately this group is charged with making a recommendation to the Leadership Team about the practicality of renovating or tearing down and replacing the 1914 buildings with a new structure.

Finally, on August 30th the Leadership Team met and reviewed the progress of the
multiple study groups. They further exchanged ideas pertaining to next steps.

The next meeting slated to take place will occur on September 6th when the
Teaching and Learning group will convene. The Teaching and Learning group will
be looking specifically at the ways that technology is integrated in classroom
instruction.
