Varsity Hockey tops rival Highland Park in a thriller

It was a rivoting game between Deerfield and arch rival Highland Park on the Ice Saturday, January 12, 2013.

The Warriors came into this game, 20-1-4 in conference, and came out flying early. Including a 6-0 lead over the giants at the end of the first period. They also started off the second period, flying getting a goal early in the second making it 7-0 in favor of Deerfield. However after that the Warriors allowed a powerplay goal, thus making it 7-1 in favor of the Warriors. Right after the Giants scored senior forward Mason Rosenberg came flying down the ice and perfectly placed the puck on Giants goalie Ethan Fischbein to make it 8-1. Then shortly after that Warrior sophomore Johnny Pagano took a hooking penalty but that didnt mean trouble for Deerfield, after Warrior senior Henri Beaudoin won the face off, passed it to senior defencemen Robbie Friend then made a excellent pass to Warrior senior Spencer Delman allowing a 2 on 1 break in favor of Deerfield. Delman passes it to Beaudoin, then he fed it right back to Delman giving Deerfield a 9-1 lead. Third period now, early on Giants junior captain Noah Pickus stole the puck, and took a shot from the blue line and some how snuck it past Warrior senior goalie Adam Serck. Shortly after that Warrior captain Beaudoin quickly went down the ice and scored a beautiful goal to seal the victory over the Giants. This was the first time in 24 years the Warriors swept the Giants

Warrior forward Spencer Delman said this after the game, "I'm really exited, this was a huge stepping stone to our ultimate goal, the State Championship, and its a great way to leave a legacy as a senior". Adam Serck said this post game "It was great to win, it was great to sweep them, and it was a great way to go out".
