Trend Watch 2013

Fabulous and fun home trends of 2013 and how to incorporate them into your current style- easier than you think!

Many of you have expressed your interest in learning about new trends before they become available in national chains like Pottery Barn, but are unsure of how you can incorporate them into your current style (which, for many of you is Traditional or Transitional).

Emerald Green

By now, you have probably heard that Pantone's color of the year is Emerald. This happy hue is both natural and modern, energizing and relaxing, classic and contemporary. It all depends on how you use it. If this bold green is something you love, try incorporating it into your home with accessories like patterend down throw pillows, a striking statement vase, or even with floral. Historically, green has never been a hot seller for us, but if its something you love please let us know! Our favorite color is green!

After a decade of brushed nickle, the warm glow of brass is just what we need. But, if you're having flashbacks of bold 80s/ 90s chandeliers and bathroom fixtures, have no fear! This version of brass is less intrusive and bold, it looks amazing on lamps and various decorative accessories. Paired with black or any other dark hue, it lends a subtle touch of modern glam. Worried about mixing metals? Don't be! Metals can and absolutely should be mixed to avoid looking too matched- have a little fun! That's what accessories are for- jewelry for the home!

Mid-Century Modern

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for mid-century designs, my house is full of pieces from the 50s and 60s and I collect (some may argue ugly) Christmas decor. Mid-century satisfies those who love clean lines and the warmth of well-loved vintage. Its a fun opportunity to add a conversation/ accent piece to your home; mid-century runs the gamut of the very clean (Danish modern) to traditional with a modern twist.

Bar Carts

You can't talk about mid-century without talking about a well-stocked bar cart. There is something nostaglically romantic about pushing a cart out to wide-eyed, impressed guests. Its playfully dramatic yet still completely practical! From true vintage pieces to those that have a vintage nod, bar carts are a great accessory that look great in all home styles. Stocked full of fun barware and you've got yourself a stylish vignette that's ready to party!

Wood Paneling

Yes! Believe it or not wood paneling is making a comeback. Many basements of long ago were adorned with cheap panels that sagged and bowed over time, many kitchens were top to bottom knotty pine. This is what people think of when they hear "wood paneling", but it can be done in a updated way that looks chic, sophistated and not even a bit dated. Wood paneling looks outstanding in offices, dens, or even as a headboard.

So there you have it, our picks for top trends of the new year. Are there any you are willing to try?
