Construction Update: Deerfield Road Opens

Crews wrap up construction on underpass.

Local drivers are going to get a bit of traffic relief starting Monday when Deerfield Road reopens.

According to village officials, crews will continue to work on the pedestrian tunnel for the next couple of weeks from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. During that time, the contractor will sometimes need to close single lanes. Drivers will occasionally see intermittent closures during that time frame as well. However,  the underpass will not be closed everyday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. nor will it be fully closed.

Crews have been working on the underpass since June while motorists deal with detours around the construction area.

Cyclists likely will be pleased with the new underpass. Current signage directs cyclists to walk their bikes through the narrow underpass. With the new underpass, and recent improvements to other Lake County structures, bicyclists will now be able to start from the east end of Deerfield Road and travel to the west end without interruption.

For the train riders, the new underpass will connect directly into the existing pedestrian bridge. Additionally, the new underpass will meet specifications of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
