Authentic Success: Raising Adolescents who are Prepared to Thrive in a Challenging World

Dr. Ken Ginsburg, a well-respected national parenting expert, writer and
pediatrician, will speak to the community about the greatest gift parents can
give their children: the bottom line of resilience. “Young people will be
resilient when the important adults in their lives believe in them
unconditionally and hold them to high expectations.”

The community is invited to explore how to raise resilient
children in our challenging times at Dr. Ginsburg’s presentation on
Thursday, November 7, focused on fostering high achievement in children while instilling a love of learning. "We must never forget that our goal in raising children is to prepare them to be happy and productive adults.  This means that academic performance, while important, is only one measure of success," says Dr. Ginsburg.  He will discuss how to help children maintain and develop their creativity and innovative potential as well as their internal resilience.

Ken Ginsburg, M.D., is a pediatrician specializing in Adolescent
Medicine at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a Professor of
Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He also serves
as Director of Health Services at Covenant House Pennsylvania, an agency that
serves the city’s homeless and marginalized youth.  The theme that ties together his clinical
practice, teaching, research and advocacy efforts is that of building on the
strength of teenagers by fostering their internal resilience.  He works to translate the best of what is
known from research and practice into practical approaches parents,
professionals and communities can use to build resilience.  He is currently The Associate Medical Editor
of The American Academy of Pediatrics’ Parenting Web Page Healthychildren.org, a
trusted web source for parents.
