Spices (and Herbs): The Variety of Life (NSSC Class)

Herbs and spices have a fascinating history across many cultures. Early trade routes led to global exploration and to colonizing countries that were the source of the rare, sought-after items. Learn how these plants were used in medicine, in religious worship, as cosmetics, and in flavoring food. See how they grow, how they are collected and processed, and how they were traded. Also explore how to cook with herbs and spices, how to store them, as well as how to identify them on a restaurant menu. There will even be some herbs and spices - from the common to the more exotic - to sample. Sara Drower, Artist & World Traveler, presents the class in two sessions on Wednesdays, March 5 and March 12, from 1-2:30 p.m.

The cost is $18 member; $24 non-member and registration is required. Call 847/784-6030 or visit the website at www.nssc.org.
