Troop 50 Boy Scouts Hosting 18th Annual Haunted House

Boy Scout Troop 50 is having a Haunted House on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27 at St. Gregory’s Church located at the intersection of Deerfield Road and Wilmot Road.   The proceeds of the event are to benefit the West Deerfield Food Pantry.   The weekend event is being dubbed - “Scare up some stuff for the Food Pantry,” by the boys.  The Troop 50 trailer will be parked in the parking lot.  The goal is that the event can bring in enough items to fill the trailer and be delivered to the West Deerfield Township building.

This is the 18th year that Troop 50 has hosted the haunted house.  The boys plan, build and produce the entire effort.  Each year a new element is added to keep the scares fresh.  Last year, the “clown room” was a big hit.  This year’s new room is, “…still under wraps,” said Matt Rabinovich, Troop 50 Senior Patrol Leader, “but I guarantee it’s going to be a fun rush of adrenaline for us (the actors) and the visitors.”

The hours of the haunted house are Saturday, 6:30 p.m. –
9:00 p.m. and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Sunday is considered “family-friendly” as the Scouts will accept requests of having the lights on to walk through the haunted house, located in the basement of St. Gregory’s church.
To gain entrance to the haunted house, visitors are asked to contribute a small cash donation, or canned or boxed goods, or cleaning products or small-sized laundry detergent.  Any would be gratefully accepted.

In the last few years, The West Deerfield Food Pantry is being used by many more families and seniors who have needed support.  Donations this summer were significantly down, and now, going into fall and winter when need historically has risen, replenishment of the shelves is desperately needed.  “Even if you don’t want to walk through the haunted house, please come by and donate an item or two,” Rabinovich asks.

Boy Scout Troop 50 is committed to serving the community, the nation, and themselves by participating in activities and endeavors that are character building and service oriented.
