The completion of construction at the intersection of Half Day Road has cut collisions at the intersection of Waukegan and Half Day Roads in half, according to Bannockburn Police Chief Ron Price.
. New lights at the busy intersection were turned on Sept. 7, according to Illinois Department of Transportation Consultant Gordon Snyder. Only landscaping remains to be finished.
The completion of the new lights provides two lanes for left turns in all four directions at an intersection that has led to long backups in the past, according to Price. He is also happy with the safety factor.
“According to our crash statistics since July, collisions have dropped by half. It’s improved the safety in the intersection,” Price said. “It’s a beautiful, smooth road. The landscaping in the median will look great.”
Though a few trees will have to be planted in the spring, Snyder believes the bulk of the greening will be finished in short order. “We expect the landscaping to be finished very soon,” he said.
Price is also happy with the foot and bicycle paths on both sides of Half Day Road. "You see people out using them," he said. "We've never had the paths on both sides before."
