Deerfield Resident Criticizes Scary Halloween Displays
Patch asked in a story and on Facebook what people thought of front-yard Halloween displays. We got a response.
Patch writer Catherine Crawford avoids certain streets in her neighborhood this time of year because some Halloween displays frighten her seven-year-old daughter.
At least one Deerfield reader, Dreiske Arnold, let us know on our Deerfield Patch Facebook page she agreed with Crawford. Arnold is concerned about some of the displays for her child, 6.
“I don't like the violent graphic nature many displays have,” Arnold wrote. “I don't even know why people would want to recreate ‘for fun’ the very same horrors actually going on around the world.”

Arnold even thought the display at the corner of Waukegan and Deerfield Roads was too much two years ago. “Even the display in downtown Deerfield right at the corner went too far two years ago,” Arnold writes. My 6-year-old son was truly frightened of it.”
Margaret Anthony knows what she likes and she wants it to be appropriate for youngsters. “Spiders, cobwebs, pumpkins, and other little-kid friendly decorations go over best with me,” she wrote.
