DHS School Chest Gets Fast Start

Benefit, Race for Change bring in donations while Deerfield Idol contestants compete Wednesday in part of Deerfield High School charity drive.

Deerfield High School’s annual School Chest Fundraising Drive got off to a fast start over the weekend as the Race for Change and gala benefit brought in the initial donations to benefit the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA).

Another big event, Deerfield Idol, will name the Warrior equivalent of the American Idol television show at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the main auditorium. Tickets are $7 at the door.

The 5K Race for Change raised approximately $8,000 Saturday despite single digit temperatures, according to Township High School District 113 Communications Director Melinda Vajdic. Though receipts from the benefit’s admissions, silent auction and more have not been fully tabulated, Deerfield High School Student Activities Director Brian Verisario was pleased.

“The School Chest GLASA Benefit 2013 was a huge success,” Verisario said. “It was so nice to see so many parents, students and former beneficiaries out to support GLASA. I’m so proud of our Student Council members and the sponsors for their months of hard work.”

More information is available on the School Chest Facebook page and online donations are welcome, according to Bricker. Click here.
