How Safe Is This Utility Pole?

When a Deerfield Patch reader was concerned about a leaning utility pole on Wilmot Road, we looked into it and got a response from ComEd.

A newer utility pole replacing one which fell to the ground on Wilmot Road in Deerfield between Hackberry Road and Dartmouth Lane and is now leaning as well is not in danger of falling, according to Commonwealth Edison spokesperson John Schoen.

A reader brought the tilting pole to Patch’s attention with an email letting us know it fell to the ground once before. The reader was worried it would happen once again from the weight of snow during a winter storm.

After Patch furnished photographs of the pole to ComEd today, the utility company promised to send the appropriate personnel to take a look at the situation and determine whether action was necessary. It is not.

“An inspection showed the current angle of the pole will not be a safety issue,” Schoen said. “We appreciate it when our customers give us a heads up so we can keep things safe.”

If you have other safety concerns which need investigation, please let Patch know. We will take a look.
