Make a Blanket, Warm the Homeless

Can you imagine someone in a homeless shelter in the last two days of sub zero cold with no blanket to help them keep warm for the night?

Imagine it because PADS Lake County needs more fleece blankets for its patrons and you can do something about it.

Cre8 Workshop is teaming with PADS to replenish the organization’s supply of fleece coverings with a blanket making event from 3 to 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at 405 Lake Cook Road in Deerfield. A year ago, people participating in Cre8’s event made 52 blankets for PADS.

“CRE8 is again proud to join with other institutions in our community to support PADS (and it mission) providing emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing and comprehensive resources to families with children and individuals experiencing homelessness in Lake County,” owner Donna Price said in a news release.

Price hopes people will come to the event and use their creativity to make a fleece blanket. An $18 donation is requested to cover the cost of materials.

“Many of the blankets have been taken by the homeless to keep them warm when the shelter was not opened,” Price said. “PADS has told us the supply is running low.” Those interested can register on line or stop by.
