Rotary Gets Kids Ready for School

Annual picnic was the occasion for presenting a backpack full of school supplies.

Children of mothers in the Highland Park based NICASA program got all the school supplies they needed assembled in a new backpack from the at a picnic August 16. 

Each year, Rotary gets the first name, age, grade and shoe size for each student in  kindergarten through eighth grade levels going to area schools and provides all necessary school supplies a well as gym shoes and socks. 

Food for mothers and children came from while the and Costco provided the backpacks, according to Deerfield Village Trustee and Rotarian Barbara Struthers.

If any of the children needed a haircut, local hairdresser Jackie Shear was there to provide one. This year she brought an assistant to paint the girls’ nails, according to Struthers.
