What's the Best Advice Dad Ever Gave You?

In honor of Father's Day, the Deerfield Patch asked readers on Facebook to share the best advice their father ever gave them.

Motherly advice is often driven by emotion and the need to protect, while lessons handed down from dad tend to be more straightforward and practical, applying to the challenges of everyday life, and sticking with you when you need it most.

For Father's Day, our Deerfield Patch Facebook readers shared some of the best advice they have received from their dads over the years. Hey dad! We're still using it!

Don't let your books get in the way of your education (on entering college).

Listen and have people doubt your ignorance than speak and remove all doubt.

Don't be a lemming. Do just the opposite to what masses tend to do.

Leave a cushion of air between you and all the other drivers. I still follow that advice. He also is one of the friendliest, happiest people I know. He set an amazing example on kindness and the importance of being friendly. He had a Kid's TV show called "Happy Herb."

Tell Us: What's the best advice your father ever gave you, and do you still find it useful? Share in the comments.
