Deerfield Children Plant Tree at Jewett Park

Four year olds get up close and personal with young oak tree.

Some of children from the early childhood program who got to help plant an oak tree Wednesday in Jewett Park were taller than the tree and they may get to see it exceed 10 times their height.

The tree planting ceremony is the outgrowth of an offer from Jim Rosas of Oaklee’s Family Guide. Rosas contacted the Park District around Arbor Day and said his organization wanted to donate the tree.

Once the proposal was made to the Park District, Director of Parks Jay Zahn and Early Childhood Supervisor Ginny Wiemrslage decided to involve four-year olds in the Early Childhood Program for a unique learning experience, according to the Park District.
