THE MACCABEATS TO PERFORM AT CELEBRATION OF ISRAEL AT 65

JEWISH NATIONAL FUND TO HOST ANNUAL TREE OF LIFE™ DINNER

September 18, 2013 - Chicago, IL – A cappella internet sensations the Maccabeats will give an exclusive performance at this year’s Jewish National Fund (JNF) Tree of Life™ Dinner on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 5:30 pm at The Westin Chicago North Shore.  This exciting event is being billed as a Celebration of Israel at 65. The year 2013 marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the land of Israel, and Jewish National Fund is taking the opportunity to celebrate the many accomplishments that have taken place over the years to build this strong nation.

“This Celebration of Israel At 65 is a celebration of a young country coming into its own,” says dinner chair Dan Cohan. “Jewish National Fund has been building the State of Israel since the early 20th century.  It continues that work today, providing leadership in developing the missing pieces that Israel needs to go forward. The Tree of Life™ Dinner is an opportunity to experience how you can be part of the ongoing project of Jewish nation-building.”

Along with the Maccabeats, the evening will feature Master of Ceremonies and renowned comedian Avi Liberman, and will recognize local Chicagoan Leonard Sherman, a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Haganah, for his years of service and dedication to the land and people of Israel. The program will also include a special tribute to Naama Amzaleg, of blessed memory, by her parents Andrea and Arik Amzaleg.

“For me, ensuring the future of Israel goes hand-in-hand with my Jewish identity,” says dinner chair Marcia Rubin. “The Tree of Life Dinner allows me and other volunteers and our staff to help our families, friends and business colleagues understand the great potential that JNF has to contribute to the continued vibrancy of Israel and its people.”

Originally formed in 2007 as Yeshiva University’s student vocal group, the Maccabeats have recently emerged as both Jewish music and a cappella phenomena. Since the release of “Candlelight,” a Chanukkah-themed parody video which garnered international attention and coverage by the major news outlets, the Maccabeats have taken the Jewish world by storm, with a large fan base, more than 10 million views on YouTube, numerous TV appearances, and proven success with two albums, 2010′s Voices From The Heights and 2012′s Out Of The Box.

As Master of Ceremonies, acclaimed comedian Avi Liberman will bring his quirky style that has made him a favorite in comedy clubs from Los Angeles to New York. Born in Israel, raised in Texas, having gone to college in New York, and now living in Los Angeles, his style is a winning combination of life experiences and topical issues told through a varied blend of characters and voices with worldwide expertise. Avi has performed stand-up comedy on CBS’s Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend and Make Me Laugh as well as NBC’s Friday Night! Since 2001, Avi has successfully arranged widely acclaimed stand-up comedy tours in Israel to help boost morale while donating all of the proceeds to charity.
