Governor Quinn's Veto of HB183

As anticipated, Governor Quinn has vetoed HB183. Some of the components of his amendatory veto include,

  • Banning concealed handguns from places that serve alcohol.
  • Limiting a licensee to one handgun with a 10 round clip.
  • It reinstates the authority of home-rule governments to enact future laws on assault weapons.

I feel some of his changes made improvements to the bill, but his revisions face a tough path in both houses. On May 31st the Senate and the House of Representatives passed HB183 with enough votes to override any potential veto. In June the state was granted a one month stay by the court which gave the governor time to review the bill. That deadline now set for July 9th.  I urge constituents to contact my office if you have any questions or concerns.
