After attending the Small Business Expo Chicago last week I came home with a new perspective on the way we network with each other. I spoke to many wonderful attendees; one woman in particular we talked with used the analogy of dating. You meet, exchange phone numbers, go on a few dates and after a few dates, start to build on the relationship. She also stated how she wasn’t looking for a one-night stand. Where you take me to dinner and after the sale never hear from you again. I found this happens in many business relationships. Many times it’s “if they don’t order from us right now what’s the point in continuing the relationship.” This person/company may not need your product or services now but possibly down the road. Never discount anyone you never know they may be the big sale you’ve been waiting for. Plus in the process gain a business friendship.
