Head Injuries is a Growing Concern

Attorney's at Malman's offices have heard of the lawsuits by four NFL football players for their concussions. The NFL agreed to pay $765 million to the players with health problems that can be caused by concussions to compensate for future medical expenses and care. The lawsuits were aimed at the NFL as well as the helmet maker, Riddell, Inc.  Manufacturers of all products in the U.S. are required by law to deliver safe products to their consumers. If you or a loved one suffered from serious injuries due to an unsafe product, call an Illinois product liability attorney as soon as possible to learn about your rights to compensation. Compensation can provide relief for medical expenses, physical damages, and pain and suffering.

Recently more persons, who are not in the public eye, have come forward with a lawsuit against the same company, Riddell. They are claiming to have sustained serious injuries such as brain damage due to the helmets made by Riddell. The helmets are allegedly not preventing serious injuries as they are supposed to. A young boy and his parents in California have come forward with their son’s serious brain injury and are suing Riddell for the life altering injuries that he is suffering from.

According to Lawyers.com[1], the boy was a regular high school student who loved to play football. One day, a severe collision on the field during a homecoming game changed his life. Despite his wearing of the helmet, the impact caused him to sustain a serious brain injury that has caused him to be physically and mentally disabled.

In a Lawyers.com interview, the mother said, “I hope one day he can become independent. Because right now he’s a large child whom I must care for, like a child.”

According to the attorney that is representing the family, the helmet design has padding in the front that fails to work in high heat temperatures. He said that Riddell has known about this performance issue for years, yet has failed to change the design.

The goal of the family in filing the lawsuit publicly is to inform other families that the equipment that the players are using is unsafe. Additionally, they hope that such lawsuits will push Riddell to change their design so that such tragic injuries do not occur to another person.

Such heart breaking incidents like the one that occurred to the California boy and his family unfortunately occurs all too often. Traumatic brain injuries caused by the impact of a car accident, faulty equipment on a job site, or even from a blow to the head during a high school sports game has the ability to change a person’s life—forever.  If you or loved one feel that your injuries were caused by an unsafe product, you have the right to collect compensation to provide for the care that you deserve.
