Bannockburn Police Dog Dex Dies

K-9 officer served all over Lake County.

Dex, a valued member of the Bannockburn Police Department and a dog used by law enforcement agencies throughout Lake County, died Thursday. He had been an official, sworn member of the Department since 2010, according to Chief Ron Price.

Though much of his expertise was detecting the presence of narcotics, Dex also searched for evidence and on occasion missing people, according to Price. Along with Officer Dave Lemmer, Dex was valued as a member of a K-9 unit serving those in need in Lake, Cook and McHenry Counties.

“While the bond between the K-9 and handler is always a special one, Officer Lemmer and Dex had something more,” Price said on the Department’s Facebook page. “I have never seen such dedication, hard work, commitment and love between an officer and K-9 partner before.”

Dex was considered special. “For those of you who have had dogs in your lifetime, there is always one that stands out as special” Price said. “Dex was that special dog. In fact he was more than just a dog; he was a partner, protector (and) family member.”
