Daniel Sullivan, World War II Pilot, Dies

A Deerfield resident for more than 60 years, Sullivan was 91.

Daniel James Sullivan, a World War II bomber pilot and longtime Deerfield resident died Friday. He was 91.

A Deerfield resident for more than 60 years and a member of the Holy Cross Church, Sullivan was born in Chicago April 29, 1922, He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and finished his service as a commander of a B-29. He was a graduate of Loyola University and the Lewis School of Aeronautics.

He was the loving husband of Kathleen “Bobba”, nee Smith, for 67 years; devoted father of Katie (Michael) Flanagan, Dan (Patty), Jim (Karen), Molly (Mike) Riley, Marita and Maggie and caring grandfather of Michael, Timothy, Patrick, Molly Rose, Kathleen, Danny, Kevin, Marianne, Mike, Renee, Cole, Elizabeth and Nina.

Sullivan was also the proud great-grandfather of Aileen, Rosemary, Olivia, Grace, Gloria, Fiona, Kevin, Eloise and Declan Daniel. He was the fond brother of Kathleen (Jack) Searle, William (Margot), the late Sheila (Bill) Cronin, Kevin, Marita and Angela; loyal brother-in-law of Ann (Jim) Geraghty, Joan (Pat) Costello and the late Doda (Bill) Sherlock and James (Elsa) Smith; fun-loving uncle and cousin to many.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home in Highland Park. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Church in Deerfield, IL 60015. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at 10 am at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1400 S. Wolf Rd., Hillside, IL. Family and friends may gather at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home at 9:45 a.m. prior to mass Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Church.
