Gladys Schindler, Psychologist and Nurse, Dies

Deerfield resident, who worked at Highland Park Hospital for years, was 90.

Gladys Marion Schindler, nee Filipek, 90, of Deerfield died Wednesday.

Schindler was born in Chicago in 1922, graduated from Forman High School and went on to earn an RN Degree in nursing from Rosary College. She held a variety of nursing positions culminating as the nursing supervisor of the Children’s Memorial Hospital Orthopedic Department.

After raising her three children, Schindler earned a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology at Elmhurst College while working at Highland Park Hospital. She enjoyed the outdoors, particularly swimming and gardening, and was also an avid bridge player.

She was the beloved wife of Charles for 63 years; loving mother of William, Laura (James) Frese and Louise (Peter) Rosiere; cherished grandmother of William (Tina) and Richard (Kristin) Frese, Lucas (Jennifer) and Jacqueline Rosiere and Jennifer Renee (Amer) Mneimneh; and adored great-grandmother of Kelsey, Evelyn and Brandon Frese.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home in Highland Park with a funeral at 9 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Church in Deerfield. Interment will be at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
