Kathleen Melchiorre, Prolific Volunteer, Dies

Longtime Deerfield resident, active in many activities, was 85.

Kathleen A. Melchiorre a longtime Deerfield resident who volunteered to help numerous organizations throughout the Chicago area, died Sunday. She was 85.

“This remarkable woman volunteered 18 years with the Waukegan Soup Kitchen and also for the Children’s Memorial Hospital in the infant department for five years and was a member of CRHP for 25 years,” a notice on the Kelly & Spalding website said.

Melchiorre also tap danced for 13 years with the Happy Tappers and was a member with the Women’s Gourmet Lunch Group for 44 years, according to Kelly & Spalding.

The beloved wife of Gene, Melchiorre was also the loving mother of Marcie Bilton, Mark (Audrey), Michael, Martha (Jim) Feid and Mindy (Tim) Breen and cherished grandmother of Kelly, Kasey, Mike, Lee, Alexis, Taylor, Megan, Michael Jr., Jesse, James, KK, Matt, Molly, Pat and Timmy. She was the adored great-grandmother of Dylan and Devin and dear sister of Pat (Gordon) Linn.

A memorial visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Church, 724 Elder Lane, with funeral mass at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Lake Forest.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Cross Church or to the Patty Turner Center, 375 Elm St., Deerfield.
