Cadwell Corners-Is Campaign Office Opening Just the Start?

Julie Morrison, 29th State District Democratic candidate for the Illinois State Senate has opened her campaign office in Cadwell Corners. Is this the start of more businesses opening in this shopping center?

has long been a shopping area with a great location but a lot of vacancies. Lake Cook Road and Waukegan Road is a busy, active, vibrant corner with an incredible amount of traffic flowing through on a daily basis.

Yet, this shopping center has had a terrible time maintaining any sort of long term tenure of businesses that will attract other businesses to want to open here. But maybe Cadwell Corner's time has finally arrived.

With the opening of the  on June 11, traffic immediately increased. Now, has opened her campaign office for the State Senate in Cadwell Corners. This is a brilliant move.

First, as Morrison herself said, “The district is half in Lake County and half in Cook County and we want to be equally accessible to both constituencies." Second, Morrison is placing her office in a shopping center that has been facing significant struggles the past few years.

The existing tenants besides the Library and Morrison’s office are only ,  and . This area had lost Stein Mart and other temporary businesses the past year or so.

By joining the Library in selecting Cadwell Corners, I believe that while the location clearly suits the needs of Morrison, the act of bringing business back to our District is something she is not only saying in her speeches, but by acting on them as well, she is "not just talking the talk, but walking the walk".

With all of the hubbub surrounding the latest on Deerbrook Mall, maybe this is the start of better things coming our way in Deerfield. The Library has kept pace and remained as busy as ever in its new location, and a State Senate candidate has moved in.

Maybe this is a trend that will begin a growth of business for us. If Morrison is elected, will she stay in her prime real estate at Cadwell Corners? I would certainly hope so. Other businesses will see increased activity and traffic and jump on the Deerfield bandwagon.

It is definitely time to have Deerfield be that go-to destination. Deerfield Square has proven to be that, why can't we also have Cadwell Corners, Deerbrook Mall, and other areas around Lake Cook and Waukegan Roads follow suit.

It is time, don't you think?

Sorry to burst your little bubble, Elizabeth, but Cadwell (not Caldwell) Corners has been a boondoggle as long as I have lived in the area (24 years this October) along with Deerbrook. Cadwell has horrible access and visibility and nothing can be done about that with little ability to access this property from west bound Lake-Cook and the only good access on Waukegan. The fact that most of the tenants of this mall have been temporary should be a clue. A campaign offfice is also temporary, as is the library's use of the site. Let's face it. DF is the armpit of retail business in the north suburbs. Wheeling, Lincolnshire, BG, LF, HP, Northbrook and even little Highwood and Northfield do much better at attracting and keeping quality businesses in their communities. Having a bedroom community is nice, but then we spend all of our money elsewhere and no-one else is spending money here. Neither a campaign office nor a library address that issue, and they certainly don't draw retail patrons to an area. Nice for the owners to get some rent, but not much help for the business aspect of the community.

Thanks for the spelling catch.

I'm pretty sure (but not positive) Cadwell Corners is managed by the same firm that manages Deerbrook.

It seems like an interesting commentary on Mrs. Morrison's campaign that her office is located in an abandoned strip mall where businesses have traditionally gone to die.

There is nothing historical about this house. The historical house was torn down in order to buildRead More a modern house which vaguely resembles the home that was owned by Lyman Wilmot. But calling this new construction "an important part of the history of Deerfield" is a travesty.

Mara, So sorry you feel this way. We feel that this really improves the neighborhood. Tried toRead More keep much of old structure, but Igor's rehab and lack of upkeep, made it impossible. couldn't even keep floors, all warped from water and walls full of mold. City did nothing to stop Igor from combining two distinct properties. I am having a champagne lunch Wed. June 19, 11:30 to 1:30. Would love for you to come and see the house. Maybe that will change your mind. Annette Kalcheim

Annette - my first statement was "beautiful house" so I have no qualms with your outcome -Read More however, this is a re-do, re-creation not the original house. But good luck! I am sure you will find a buyer quickly!
