TIU Students to Bike 2,500 Miles for a Good Cause

Hoffman Estates, Ill. (June 12, 2014) – 2,500 miles is more than the average bike ride. But four students of Trinity International University are taking one mile at a time to raise money for human trafficking victims in India.

“We want to be a voice for the voiceless. Girls are being tricked, deceived, and kidnapped and something needs to be done,” explained Dan Johnson, one of the riders.

According to The Global Slavery Index, there are 29.8 million people currently trapped in modern day slavery, affecting 162 countries worldwide. The global commercial sex trade exploits over two million children every year. The team’s mission, called Bike4Solution, is to use their bike ride to be part of the solution to the very prevalent epidemic of human trafficking.

The four students decided to take action against human trafficking after their university football team partnered with Bright Hope, a non-profit based in Hoffman Estates, Ill., for their senior year season. After watching Nefarious, a documentary that showed the widespread dehumanization of sexually exploited women and children around the world, Tommy Kenny, one of the riders said, “As men, we need to get involved. After watching Nefarious, I got angry seeing the treatment of women. But I also realized we, as men, have not been told the truth about how our own issues, such as lust and pornography, affect the whole picture. We need to stop human trafficking at the source.”

Bike4Solution’s goal is to raise $55,000 to rescue 16 women in Northern India. The donations will go to Bright Hope’s Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative, which will cover the cost of raids, rescues, and a 12-month restoration program for each girl.

The team, including Dan Johnson, Tommy Kenny, Jono Mullins, and Dustin Alewine, will leave Saturday, June 14. After stopping in several cities such as Kansas City, Colorado Springs, and Las Vegas, the team will end in Mission Viejo, California.

Join these men as being a part of the solution. “Every mile matters, every dollar saves lives.” Visit bike4solution.org to follow the team, learn more or donate.
