$9,000 Charged on Stolen Credit Cards

Police investigate 2 theft incidents involving secured gym lockers.

Police were called to  in Deerfield on May 15 in reference to a credit card theft. A 74-year-old man told officers that three of his credit cards had been stolen from his wallet while he was working out the day before.

The Winnetka resident said he didn’t notice the cards missing until Chase called him about a $3,000 purchase at a Best Buy in Downers Grove. 

Four other fraudulent purchases were made, including $800 at an unknown location, $1,500 at a Best Buy in Hinsdale, $600 at another unknown location and a second $3,000 charge at a different Best Buy.

The victim told authorities his wallet had been secured inside a locker at Bally's at the time of the theft. He also mentioned noticing a suspicious white male near his locker.

Officers plan to review surveillance video from Best Buy to get a description of the suspect.

The following day police were called back to Bally's about another theft report.

A Deerfield resident told police three credit cards had been taken from his wallet inside a secured locker while he was also working out. 

According to the police report, the 73-year-old man didn’t notice that the cards were missing until hours later. He called his credit card companies and discovered unauthorized purchases were made at Best Buy, Starbucks, Sports Authority and Apple shops.
