Randell Briem, 29, of Highwood was arrested for speeding, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, driving under the influence and illegally transporting open alcohol Sept. 1 at Half Day and Waukegan Roads, according to a Bannockburn police report.
Briem was observed travelling eastbound on Half Day Road at 12:45 a.m., driving 59 mph in a 40 mph zone. Bannockburn police stopped Briem's vehicle, and observed a strong alcohol odor.
After unsuccessfully performing field sobriety tests, the officer determined Briem was likely intoxicated. She refused a breathalyzer test and was taken into custody and placed in the back of the squad car.
The officer returned to her vehicle and observed an open beer can and evidence of other previously opened alcohol containers, in addition to medication containing codeine 3.
When the officer communicated to Briem what he had found in her vehicle, she reportedly became irate, then began screaming and thrashing around in the back of the vehicle, according to the report.
Briem was taken to the Deerfeld Police Department and charged.
Her court date is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 26 in Waukegan.
