Car Burglaries Spike in Deerfield

Police investigate break-ins at parking lots during athletic events.

An investigation of a number of car burglaries at Village parking lots is currently under investigation by the Deerfield Police Department, according to Sgt. Dave Walsh.

“We’ve seen a number of car burglaries over there (Jaycee Park), Walsh said today. “They are targeting women’s purses left in vehicles.”

Patch first learned about the latest car burglaries when it received an email from a reader Tuesday reporting a car window was smashed and a beach bag taken Sunday at Jaycee Park. The email further indicated other cars were vandalized.

Walsh said the investigation is ongoing though a pattern may be emerging. “It’s happening at sporting events like soccer and baseball games where people leave the stuff in their cars,” he said.
