UPDATE: Witness Snaps Photos of Major Car Crash

Accident sends two drivers to hospital including Deerfield Police Officer.

A car crash in Deerfield Monday shutdown part of Waukegan Road while crews cleared the scene. That’s when local resident, Danny James, snapped these photos and submitted them to Patch.

According to authorities, a squad car collided with a Jeep turning onto Waukegan Road in front of the Deerbrook Mall. Apparently the Deerfield police officer was responding to an emergency call when the accident happened.

The officer was removed from the vehicle and transported to Lutheran General Hospital.

Witnesses tell Patch the other female driver got out of her car, was fitted for a neck brace and transported to Highland Park Hospital.

Officials say the injuries appeared non-life threatening.

Both vehicles were removed by flatbed tow trucks, the road was cleared and open to traffic by 4 p.m. that afternoon.

According to the the officer injured in Monday’s car crash on Waukegan Road is expected to be released from the hospital sometime Wednesday.

Because the accident is currently under investigation both Deerfield Police and the Northbrook Fire Department are being tight lipped about what happened.

Northbrook Fire Department officials do say two drivers were taken to the hospital Monday after crashing on Waukegan Road in front of the Deerbrook Mall.

According to TribLocal, police were responding to a medical call at the when a squad car collided with a Jeep turning onto Waukegan Road out of Best Buy's parking lot.

Both vehicles sustained major damage in the crash. The website states the injuries appeared non-life threatening. No word yet on either of the driver's exact injuries.
