A slew of cars parked at were burglarized on Aug. 28 while a soccer tournament was taking place nearby.
When police showed up around 6:45 p.m., three drivers told officers their vehicles had been broken into.
A 53-year-old Deerfield woman reported her car window was smashed and a laptop stolen.
A 70-year-old Evanston woman told police her daughter’s car window had also been broken and a Coach purse with $400 cash inside was missing.
A 44-year-old Highland Park woman reported her purse with $300 cash was taken after the car's window was smashed.
A few hours later, were contacted by the Lake County Forest Preserve Police with a tip about the possible whereabouts of the missing items. A ranger notified officers that a stolen credit card had been used at a Marathon gasoline station in Lincolnshire and several purses had been located behind the station in a trash bin.
Four purses were recovered that night by police including the two that had been stolen at Brickyards Park earlier in the day.
