Cell Phone Use Leads to Arrest and More

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Driver’s License Infractions 

Mark Blades, 24, of Chicago was arrested Feb. 6 for driving with a suspended license and driving while using hand held cell phone, according to Deerfield Police reports. 

Police observed Blades with a cell phone in his hand near the intersection of Deerfield Road and Chestnut with the display illuminated and stopped him, according to the report. A further check indicated his driver’s license was suspended because of a previous DUI. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 1:30 P.M. March 5 in Park City.

Lakisha Calhoun, 37, of Evanston was arrested Feb. 1 for driving with a suspended license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, according to Deerfield Police reports. A random check of Calhoun’s plates near the intersection of Waukegan Road and Oakmont Drive indicated the suspension. She was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in Park City. 

DUI

Jeffrey Dietrich, 53, of Skokie was arrested Feb. 2 for driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage and driving with one headlight illuminated, according to Deerfield Police reports.

Police observed Dietrich driving with one headlight illuminated as he exited the Tri-State Tollway eastbound at Deerfield Road, according to the report. After he straddled the median, he was stopped near the intersection of Deerfield Road and Pine Street. 

After making the stop, police noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Dietrich’s breath, according to the report. He failed a field sobriety test and was recorded with a blood alcohol level of .259. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 9 a.m. March 6 in Waukegan. 

Possession of Cannabis 

Kathryn Rappaport, 20, of Deerfield was arrested Feb. 7 for possession of cannabis and speeding, according to Deerfield Police reports. 

Police clocked Rappaport driving 40 miles per hour in a 30-mile per hour zone on Deerfield Road and after turning onto Warrington she drove 30 miles per hour in an area with a 25-mile-per-hour speed limit, according to the report. After she was stopped, she admitted there was a “small” amount of marijuana in the car. Police are awaiting laboratory tests and no further information is available.
