Cheerful Graffiti, Looted Lamps and a 'Model' Crime

A look at weird crimes this week in our Patch region.

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

A 1/8-scale model car and a clock were stolen from the vestibule of a Morton Grove business.

A Winnetka resident reported that someone took aluminum stakes from his trucks.

Skokie police were dispatched regarding a graffiti complaint. According to the report, red spray paint was used to draw a smiley face on the side of a building.

A red fire extinguisher was taken from the second floor of an office building in Des Plaines. The building manager told police this was not the first time a fire extinguisher has been stolen.

A woman came into the Skokie police station regarding harassing phone calls she’s been receiving from her mother. According to the report, the mother is allegedly trying to get back the money she gave her daughter for college tuition.

Deerfield police stopped a woman for driving with a suspended license and no insurance. When police searched her vehicle, they allegedly found multiple pills in “assorted baggies,” a bottle with white powder and a spoon with residue that tested positive for cocaine. 

Someone poured a mixture of water and varnish into a vehicle’s gas tank in Morton Grove.
