Court Upholds Conviction in Deerfield Daycare Death

Melissa Calusinski was convicted of first-degree murder five years ago in the death of a toddler in her care.

An Appellate Court panel has upheld the first-degree murder conviction of a Deerfield daycare worker who was accused of throwing a 16-month-old boy onto a tile floor in 2009, according to CBS Chicago.

Melissa Calusinski, 27, who worked at Minee Subee daycare, is serving a 31-year prison sentence. But he says Calusinski will continue to appeal because there was faulty testimony at her trial. He says the boy had a previous head injury and his daughter’s confession was coerced after she was deprived of sleep by police, the CBS report states.
