Deerfield Cops Help Nab Alleged Thief

Police say man was a repeat offender who was stealing from people at a local business

On Oct. 15 at about 4:50 p.m., Deerfield police were dispatched to a local , located at 260 S. Waukegan Rd., to "investigate a suspicious subject who was possibly going into lockers to steal cash," according to a police report.

Authorities were contacted after Bally's staff members were told by patrons that 19-year-old Conner A. Perry, of the 1700 block of Ferndale Ave., was observed going through several unlocked lockers.

Upon arriving, two officers staged outside the building while a third went inside to investigate. At that time, the officer who had entered the building viewed a white male later identified as Perry "acting suspiciously." The subject was observed removing his shoes several times, then putting them back on, the report stated.

Further surveillance showed him going through the contents of an unlocked gym locker which included a blue gym bag and a sweater, the police report added.

Police also spoke with another subject who testified that he actually caught Perry going through his items in the locker room the day before. He confronted Perry, who then reportedly told the man he thought "the items were his," as an excuse.

The man later reported $10 was missing from his gym bag.

Police Stage Further Surveillance

While allowing Perry to work out inside Bally's for about 35 minutes, officers continued to keep an eye on him, at which point Perry returned to the locker room and once again was observed opening several unlocked gym lockers and going through their contents.

"After going through approximately 10 unlocked lockers, I (unnamed officer) observed Conner walking out of Bally's," the police report stated.

He was then apprehended and placed under arrest.

The police report also states that on Oct. 9, prior to Perry's arrest, an additional victim came forward and told Bally's staff that someone had stolen $9 and a fake gold colored Rolex watch from his locker.

Evidence Allegedly Found

While a consent search of Perry's vehicle turned up nothing, officers later arrived at his residence. They were then allowed to enter his home, which belongs to his parents, and granted permission to search Perry's room.

Officers then allegedly found a gold Rolex watch that matched the description of the missing watch earlier reported to police, and also found a glass smoking pipe, a one-hitter and a blue grinder, which cops said all smelled of burnt cannabis residue.

Deerfield police then charged Perry with two counts of theft under $500 and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Perry was released after posting $150 bond, pending a Nov. 10 court date in Skokie at 10:30 am.
